Working in the store
Serving the community
Post Office Volunteers
You and the Community Store
You are an integral part of the local community and the store is at the heart of the community. Many people help to run the shop but we would always like more help. The work is fun, you can choose if you work behind the counter or helping in some other way. Its a good way to get to know people, and, as one volunteer said, "its easy to be cheery working there". Volunteering makes you feel part of the community.
What is involved?
Don't worry, you would not be expected to run the shop on your own, although many volunteers are now well capable of so doing. You will be given good training and work alongside either a member of staff or an experienced volunteer. If you are not sure, there is always someone to ask.
You might be working on the till, welcoming people, being polite and friendly, helping people find things, pricing up and restocking shelves, helping with deliveries.
And its not just serving customers where help is needed. It is important to keep the store and premises looking clean and attractive. You may have skills and tools that we can call upon from time to time. We all lead busy lives but could you spare the odd couple of hours occasionally?
What now?
Drop into the store and have a chat with Dawn. Alternatively, send an email to with your telephone number and she will call you back. Of course, having a chat does not commit you to anything so why not get in touch now?
